Each disk has two holes already as long as you click the write protect correctly. If you look at the bottom of the disk there are two holes that don’t go completely through the plastic. Using these as a guide drill them out for four disks. These make up your sides. For the bottom use another disk as a template. The two holes that come naturally on every disk can serve as a guide to drill identically spaced holes at the bottom of a disk. This should line up perfectly your four sides and then it’s just a matter of cable tying it together leaving the knot of the cable tie on the inside of the box.

Some things I didn’t know myself.

Babies are basically legally blind when they are first born. A newborn baby is greeted with a mere smudge in the direction of a light. As time goes by they soon gain some sort term vision and will recognize faces if closer then a foot after a few weeks. Even then, their ability to differentiate different colors is limited until their eyes develop more. At around seven months a baby can see almost as well as you can. For more information check out this page on visual development.

Babies don’t have kneecaps so to speak. They have knees but they don’t start to ossify until around age three.

Newborn babies must be burped in order to ensure the peacefulness of the household. Many parents learn quickly to burp their baby often. What some parents might miss out on though is the nature of burping itself. In order for a burp to be successful the person burping must be orientated upwards. Otherwise any solids or fluids in the stomach will come along with the gas. That being said babies do not require much burping or really any at all as soon as they start sitting up and moving around. So burp often until your child develops the strength for locomotion.

That’s all I’ve got at the moment.

I have this collection of well meaning bookmarks that just expands until I have to dump them somewhere. I’ve tried out some of the social bookmark sites but none of them have the one feature I really need which is to somehow give me the time to go through them.

So I thought I’d post them here with a brief description.

I found this pretty good list of Vista tips. My tip would be just don’t install Vista.

STADS is a program to easily switch out the default audio device. Unfortunately support for multiple audio devices is lacking. I’ve yet to try out how Vista handles this with it’s improved mixer.

A photo gallery of sexy Star Wars recruiter posters. I really should have one of them as my wallpaper. Though my current wallpaper isn’t bad.

Here is an interesting interview with John Carmack about the ongoing debate to Ray Trace or not.

I’ve always wanted to learn how to Silkscreen so I could make my own witty T-shirts.

WordNet® is a large lexical database of English. In other words it’s an online dictionary/thesaurus thing that’s also available for download.

The United States Navy Electricity & Electronics Training Series seemed like a good place to brush up on my electronics.

The css-discuss wiki seems like a real good place to get some design advice.

One of these days I’ll memorize a solution to the Rubik’s Mini Cube. For now I have a few general moves and then I stab around in the dark until it magically solves itself.

If I ever invent something this Online Machine Shop might be a good place for some prototypes.

I’m the proud owner of a partial Lego Mindstorms kit. The Bricx Command Center looked like the best free software out there to control and program it.

We really hate how outdated the game Guess Who is. If you ever wanted to design an accurate game the 2000 Census seems like a good place to start.

I think that’s it for this round. I hope you enjoy all the things I’ll never have time for.

For the longest time I’ve been running a few blogs without making use of the Akismet Wordpress plugin. For those who don’t know any time you run a blog or website as you start getting more and more popular the spam bots start hitting you more and more. They search for websites that have forms and auto fill these forms with links and keywords in hopes that a few of them might go through and bump up their ranking albeit temporarily.

Does this work? This link of a misspelled spam message proves it does somewhat. But realize in order to get those three thousand links on Google they probably had to send out three million.

So today I install Akismet on my last blog but before I close the doors on spam I’d like to share with you a few spam messages that caught my eye so to speak. These were a little harder to decipher as spam. Some sound more like fortune cookies.

Last week at Fry’s, littlestar and I played a bit of Guitar Hero 2 that they had out for demo purposes. While it did take some time to get used to the controls, we eventually got it, and it was alot of fun. Garage Geeks has built the a rel “nofollow… (the a rel “nofollow part is a link which was stripped out at some point.)

I can not agree with you in 100% regarding some thoughts, but you got good point of view…

Extremely interesting post. A little bit different from my point of view but neverless an interesting opinion….

Very interesting post. A little bit confusing, but it still ok Hm….

Every time I visit this website I loose my assurance that everything written here is real. But even if it’s not true, I keep on visiting it because it’s interesting. There are many posts which you can’t find anywhere else.

Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens….

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world….

It was fun moderating you spam. I’ll miss you.

“Are you all ready for the pregnancy?” My boss asked.

“Sure, we have her clothes packed and the phone list ready…” I replied.

“No,” he cut me off, “are YOU ready for the pregnancy?”

He then went on with a list of things I personally never thought about. While the misses was going to have her day set, I would be sitting around either bored or playing helper. I thought I’d share some tips from my recent experience.

Food
Your going to be gone for at least 24 hours. You’ll probably be able to sneak away to the nearest grease joint, but who knows what the timing is going to be. My boss recommends cheese and crackers. I preferred cookies and chips.

Money
Of the loose kind. Grab a roll of quarters in advance to feed to the magic food dispensers. Your hospital will most likely have these conveniently located 19 floors and 7 closets away from where you’re at.

Pillow and Blanket
I recommend doing what I did and upon getting there immediately sleep if the misses is inducing. You’ll be able to catch a couple of hours before the storm hits. Catch as much sleep as you can without pissing off the misses. You probably won’t sleep much that first night as the baby will be crying throughout the night.

Clothing and Personal Hygiene
24 hours. So you’ll need your pit stick, a toothbrush and paste, and maybe a spare T-shirt. That would have came in handy as the first thing my daughter did was pee all over mine.

MP3 Player
Your going to need something to drown out the relatives when they all come and visit. They will ramble on incessantly about how their friend’s nephew’s father-in-law’s ex-wife’s daughter had this sort of birth with this sort of drugs. Just smile nod your head to the beat of Radiohead. Bring one for the misses as well.

Time Wasters
Perhaps puzzle books or a laptop. Our room had a DVD player in it and if we had known/thought ahead of time we could have been watching cool animes on our crappy TV.

Patience
Just smile and nod. It’ll be over soon enough. Mom’s gonna scream, yell, curse, cringe, moan and complain. If the drugs don’t work you’ll have to deal with this the whole time. If they do work you have to deal with loopy Mom which is almost as bad. Just smile, nod, and persevere.

A Sidecar Mentality
As the father of this baby you have absolutely no rights whatsoever. The doctors and Mom are going to steer this ship and your just along for the ride. You are the passenger and helper. You’ll get ice and water, ask the nurse for small things and hold her hand. You’ll also get asked to leave now and then, you might get pushed to the side and you’ll get odd stares if you ask too many questions.

I’ve been busy packing the past couple of weeks. We are lucky in that we have the opportunity to pack and move well in advance. So we are taking the time to organize and go through all our crap.

Crap it is. Besides beds and clothes everything now is in boxes or piles. One for yard sale. One for stuff we’ll keep. The stuff we’ll keep we’ve been going through and tossing away.

It’s amazing how much crap we collect. We have a full box of magic markers and a full box of crayons. We found something like 10 pairs of scissors. Tons of little happy meal and bubble gum machine toys.

The whole thing has made me wonder if we as humans aren’t going about it all wrong. Why do we even have closets? We are wasting a few feet of wall to toss up doors that make it harder to get to our stuff. We hide our stuff in little rooms. We put it in storage.

Closets are just silly. If you came over to my house and noticed an attractive shelving system, nicely organized instead of a closet you’d probably be more impressed.

Lots of silly stuff though. Like it’s amazing how much crap we have for decoration. We have so much of it it isn’t very decorative. We have a half dozen little children’s toys that didn’t work as advertised, and a half dozen adult toys that are the same. Apparently we are addicted to stuffed animals. All of us gave up bags of them.

Old clothes are always going to happen. But did we really need six pairs of winter gloves for the kid? Do I need 32 pairs of socks?

Probably 200 pencils with 100 pens, three scientific calculators and a half dozen pencil sharpeners another half dozen headphones.

I’ve collected tons of computer junk too. Two dozen power cables. A few hundred feet of Ethernet and Coaxial cable. Countless boards and chips.

Yard sale, yard sale. We are having a big one. What doesn’t sell that I know will goes to E-bay. The rest to the local freecycle community. Anything left over to the salvation army. As I’m looking around there is more that needs to sell. You see I plan on using the yard sale money to upgrade. Maybe we should sell all our ratty towels.

I need to get new ones if I’m gonna display them out in the open one day.

Recently the kid had a project to do which involved some family photos. Rather then give up our precious photos we scanned them in and went to print them out only to remember we didn’t have any printer ink.

So off to walmart.com I went. We had five scanned images to print, along with two that were taken with our digital camera.

The first thing I had to do was somehow get the images to walmart. At the store they have a kiosk which accepts all sorts of formats, some of which I’d barely heard before. It accepted the xD cards my camera uses, along with CD’s and DVD’s. I’m not sure if I saw a USB port or floppy drive, but the device seriously had about a dozen recepticles for dongles.

This option is obviously for the more active and mobile members of the species. I opted to just sit at home and visit Walmart’s photocenter.

I filled out the form to sign up for their service and was immediately gifted with ten free prints. Shortly I was uploading the photos and a few clicks later they were on their way.

The webpage was quite easy to use and didn’t hiccup once. You can order prints in multiple sizes and quantities. Prints can be sent to your nearest store in one hour for a bit more, or mailed to you for a bit less. We opted in this case for the one hour in store pickup, after all walmart was footing the bill.

We did end up having some problems, apparently the computer in charge of recieving my photos at our local store was down the night I sent the pictures, I had to resend the next day after recieving a phone call from them. This also caused a bit of confusion at the register because I had two orders up there. In the end it was all figured out and all I lost was a bit of time.

The pictures came out very good. There was no visable difference between the scanned copies and the originals. The pictures taken on the digital camera were sharp and clear and honestly a bit better then the film pictures.

One picture was oddly resized due to my overzealous photoshopping beforehand. Your picture will be blown up to 4×6 if that is what you ordered. I should have adjusted the picture accordingly.

Overall I’m quite happy and of course can’t complain a bit about the price. But since they are only twelve cents for a 4×6 home delivery I will definitely be buying again.

And I don’t think I’ll ever touch a film camera again. Film is dead, long live digital.
